• Ford has introduced a mid-lifecycle update for the Territory in the Brazilian market.
  • The SUV is a rebadged version of the Equator Sport, built in China by Jiangling Motors.
  • The export model is visually distinguished by body-colored inserts on the bumpers.

Ford’s global naming strategy can sometimes feel like a game of automotive déjà vu, and the “Territory” nameplate is no exception. You might recall it from the now-defunct Australian crossover that shared bones with the Falcon sedan.

But the name lives on, now applied to a different model entirely: the Chinese-built Equator Sport, which has been wearing the Territory badge in export markets like South America. That SUV has just received a refresh, and while the changes are subtle, they’re enough to set it apart from its Chinese-market sibling.

The facelifted Ford Territory is scheduled to land in Brazilian showrooms next month. Like the Chinese-spec Equator Sport, it adopts a redesigned front end, dropping the previous split headlight setup. Instead, it gains a new grille with a distinctive chrome-accented pattern, while the reshaped front and rear bumpers now feature body-colored inserts that give the SUV a more polished look.

Minor Tweaks, Same Dimensions

Not much has changed in profile. The SUV still measures 4,685 mm (184.5 inches) in length, but it now rolls on a fresh set of 19-inch wheels and sports chrome-finished door handles. The model shown here is the Titanium trim, which, for now, is the only version offered in Brazil.

Inside, the updated Territory retains a familiar design and the digital cockpit with dual 12.3-inch screens. Ford designers added a new color combination for the seat upholstery and different options for the trim. The automaker will announce more details about the equipment closer to the market launch.

Same Powertrain, No Hybrid (Yet)

The mid-lifecycle update isn’t expected to bring major upgrades under the skin. This means that the Brazilian-spec Territory will likely retain the turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine, which is good for 166 hp (124 kW / 169 PS) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque.

The SUV is exclusively available with FWD and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Chinese models are also offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain option.

The refreshed Territory made its first appearance at the Interlagos Festival in São Paulo. Ford reports that Territory sales in Brazil quadrupled last year, reaching over 5,000 units. With the facelifted model arriving soon, that number could continue climbing. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the current model starts at R$ 215,000 (roughly $38,900).

Beyond Brazil, the updated Territory is expected to reach several other global markets, including Argentina, Mexico, the Philippines, Vietnam, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia.
