- BMW has also announced that it will “postpone” electric vehicle production this month.
- Prices of the 2-Series and the M2 will be backed up by 4% as they’re built in Mexico.
- The prices of other models will remain steady through June but may rise after.
While the full impact of the Trump administration’s tariff policies is still unfolding, some major companies are already feeling the heat. BMW, for one, has confirmed it will raise prices on the 2-Series and M2 this month. But there’s a silver lining for buyers: the brand is keeping prices stable on most of its imported vehicles through June.
A recent memo sent out to dealerships across the United States reveals that BMW will increase prices of the 2-Series and M2 by 4 percent this month as they are produced in and imported from Mexico. While this is a relatively small price jump, considering Trump has hit imported vehicles with a 25 percent tariff, it’s still a price hike, and that’s never good news for customers.

However, it’s not all bad news. Following the lead of many other major car brands, BMW said it will not raise prices on most of its imported vehicles built through June. What happens afterwards is anyone’s guess and likely depends on whether the US President makes further changes to his policy.

In the same memo, BMW added that it will “postpone” electric vehicle production in May, without elaborating on the subject. As noted by Sam Fiorani, the vice president of AutoForecast Solutions, “add in that the EV market is saturated, and it doesn’t make sense to add increasingly costly EVs to a crowded market.”
Auto News notes that the German brand sold 13,538 EVs in the US through the first quarter of 2025, representing a significant 26% jump from the year prior. The i4 sedan led the charge with sales, spiking by 57% compared to Q1 2024. It’s likely that the possibility of President Trump removing the $7,500 federal EV tax credit has also convinced BMW to postpone its EV production as it likely waits to see what will unfold next.
