- A yet-unnamed BMW concept made its first appearance on shadowy teasers.
- The model looks like a Shooting Brake version of the limited-production Skytop.
- It is expected to debut this weekend at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
BMW is teasing a mysterious new concept car, and if you squint just right, it looks like it could be a Shooting Brake version of last year’s production-intent Skytop study. For now, the automaker has shared a few shadowy, cryptic shots on social media, offering just enough of a glimpse to spark some serious curiosity.
The teaser focuses on the rear end, revealing a sleek roofline and a sculpted tail with ultra-slim LEDs. The curved rear fenders and the fin-shaped door handles match the ones from the BMW Skytop convertible, but the bodystyle is closer to a shooting brake. Still, the long wheelbase likely means that the proportions won’t be dramatic as in the Z4-based Concept Touring Coupe from 2023.

BMW describes the model as “a unique blend of design, elegance, and precise craftsmanship”, hinting at a coachbuilt special. They also used the words dynamic, elegant, and exotic, adding that the vehicle is “built to move hearts and corners”.
As with the Skytop, the new concept will likely ride on the underpinnings of the G15 BMW 8-Series, which is nearing the end of its lifecycle. It could also be powered by the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine from the M8 Competition, generating a healthy 617 hp (460 kW / 625 PS) of power.

Details are still thin, but we do know the new concept is expected to make its debut at the 2025 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, which takes place in Lake Como between May 24-26. So, if you’re planning a last-minute trip to Italy to see the unveiling, now might be a good time to book a flight.

The BMW Skytop debuted at the 2024 edition of the same event, going from concept to a limited production of 50 units. The model quickly sold out, despite the rumored price tag of $500k. Judging from the enthusiastic response to the original, we can assume that BMW will also want to put the exotic shooting brake in production, offering it at a similarly spicy price.
During a recent interview, Sylvia Neubauer, BMW M’s Vice President of customers, brand, and sales, all but confirmed that the Skytop will be followed by more limited-production vehicles: “BMW’s strategy is to have a series of small-series additions that we offer to the markets. There will be something coming at Villa d’Este this year, and probably some future small-series editions with the ‘M’ designation.”
